DAVE DICTOR
Millions Of Dead Cops
[Flipside]

"I don't tell people to go shoot a policeman, but I don't tell them not to. Do what you want to."

TORI AMOS
[Brainy Quote]

"Our generation has an incredible amount of realism, yet at the same time it loves to complain and not really change. Because, if it does change, then it won't have anything to complain about."

MIHNEA BLIDARIU
Luna Amara
[Tiuk!]

Libertatea de exprimare are doua taisuri.

#98 - Tom Morello:
"The number one freedom that you and I have is the freedom to enter into a subservient role in the workplace. The only way you can avoid bosses and jobs is if you don't care about making a living. Which leads to the second freedom: the freedom to starve."

#78 - Layne Staley
"What does it feel like to have enough money to fly anywhere in the world right now?"

"I'm not set for life, but I guess I can go anywhere I want. If only I knew where to go."

#73 - Greg Sage:
"I’d say ’93 to ’95 was kind of the curvature towards things slowly reversing. It’s to the point where music is just definitely a rehash of the past, and I guess, maybe people don’t sense that there’s a future ahead of them, so subconsciously they look backward."

#68 - Greg Ginn:
"I don't like to consume stuff, but I don't make a big deal out of it. I don't really like to go to the store, but that's a personal thing. I don't dwell on it, because I don't like it! So sometimes when people are so hyper about something like anti-consumerism, they're actually maybe just not consuming as much as they want to."

#67 - Charles Manson:
"Believe me, if i started murdering people, there'd be none of you left."

#63 - Jerry Seinfeld
"I just hate everything and everybody. And that's why I'm so funny."

#60 - Bill Hicks:
"Today, a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration – that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There's no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we're the imagination of ourselves... Here's Tom with the weather."

#57 - Varg Vikernes:
"Why do everybody have to play themselves? Isn't listening to music enough? If you don't make something that is different from the rest there is no point in making music."

#55 - Charles Manson:
"Do you feel blame? Are you mad? Uh, do you feel like wolf kabob Roth vantage? Gefrannis booj pooch boo jujube; bear-ramage. Jigiji geeji geeja geeble google. Do you begep flagaggle vaggle veditch-waggle bagga?"

#52 - Kurt Cobain:
"Why did you entitled the album "Nevermind"?
"I don't know. So I can brush off the question. Forget it. It doesn't matter."

#47 - Zak Tell:
"Fining the kids for filesharing is not the way to solve the problem, it’s just a way to find scapegoats and will not in any way benefit the record companies as they are attacking their main buying target, dumb fuckers!"

#43 - Lynn Strait:
"Say something for the record, tell the people what you feel."
"Fuck the record, and fuck the people."

#42 - Tom Araya:
"It's one thing that we all have in common. We all die."

#41 - Bruce Loose:
"Has the world changed? No. It’s still the same. We still all walk, we all still breathe, we all still eat, we all still shit. It’s the same thing."

#38 - Thom Yorke:
"Street Spirit is our purest song, but I didn't write it. It wrote itself. We were just its messengers; its biological catalysts. Its core is a complete mystery to me, and, you know, I wouldn't ever try to write something that hopeless. (...) All of our saddest songs have somewhere in them at least a glimmer of resolve. Street Spirit has no resolve. It is the dark tunnel without the light at the end. Street Spirit is about staring the fucking devil right in the eyes, and knowing, no matter what the hell you do, he'll get the last laugh. And it's real, and true. The devil really will get the last laugh in all cases without exception, and if I let myself think about that too long, I'd crack.

"I can't believe we have fans that can deal emotionally with that song. That's why I'm convinced that they don't know what it's about. (...) It drains me, and it shakes me, and hurts like hell every time I play it, looking out at thousands of people cheering and smiling, oblivious to the tragedy of its meaning, like when you're going to have your dog put down and it's wagging its tail on the way there. That's what they all look like, and it breaks my heart."

#34 - Marilyn Manson:
"All the seven deadly sins are man’s true nature. To be greedy. To be hateful. To have lust. Of course, you have to control them, but if you’re made to feel guilty for being human, then you’re going to be trapped in a never-ending sin-and-repent cycle that you can’t escape from. And you’re going to be miserable. Ultimately, you’ll be living in your own hell. So there’s no need to worry about going to hell, because hell will be on earth."

#32 - Mike Patton:
"There’s a danger in anything that is unfamiliar. That’s the world we live in. People want to be reminded and patted on the back; they want to be told things they already know."

#30 - Michael Pitt:
"Sometimes I wish I didn't give a fuck. I wish I didn't care and I could just be a pig in shit and just make a shitload of money and fucking buy an island and fly all my friends there and, you know... I don't know."

#22 - Jonathan Davis:
"We didn't care then and we don't care now."

#5 - Nick Fagadar:
"Piesa urmatoare este pentru toti parintii nostri care stau acasa si se uita la televizoare semi-adormiti, dupa o zi de munca sau o zi de somat, si se intreaba ce naiba fac copiii lor in Vama Veche la ora asta... Gri Dorian."

Daron Malakian
System Of A Down
[www.daronmalakianrocks.com]

"It’s tough for bands to mix politics. Either you’re a political band or you’re a sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll band. Either or.

Just because Serj [Tankian] has a political view about something doesn’t mean it should be your political view. Our whole thing is, just have a view. Some people are just so blank. Just have some sort of point of view about it. I’d like to be honest and not sort of a guide. We’re not here to save your life."

Henry Rollins
Black Flag
["Talk Is Cheap Volume 4"]

"I've never downloaded a song in my life, because any band I want to buy a CD by probably sleeps on the floor and actually needs the money. But anything bigger than a little-ass band, STEAL THAT SHIT! FUCK IT!"

Tom Morello
Rage Against The Machine
[Guitar World]

"America touts itself as the land of the free, but the number one freedom that you and I have is the freedom to enter into a subservient role in the workplace. Once you exercise this freedom you've lost all control over what you do, what is produced, and how it is produced. And in the end, the product doesn't belong to you. The only way you can avoid bosses and jobs is if you don't care about making a living. Which leads to the second freedom: the freedom to starve."

Mr. S
Satanochio
[Avantgarde Metal]

"I cannot take this anymore, I just can't! This madness must stop and the only weapon I have to fight with is my music. I cannot stay back home and leave all the bastards throwing their lies over the poor mindless crowds! We are not free. Look around...just look very carefully around and see how many of us are the slaves of some stupid philosophy. I cannot take anymore a generation of whores that teach their daughters to act like whores, I cannot take anymore generations and generations of religion-related minds and acts! If I'll stop doing this, there will be no difference between me and a sheep. And I'm not a sheep, I am a human being, that can think, that can dream, that can grow and evolve, that can explore everything, that can do everything!

Church, State, Democracy, Freedom … big words, small inventors with big bank accounts and big powers. When you want to build something serious, when you are thinking about the human progress and evolution, the mindless crowds are the last people that will admit you as someone serious. And it's more than possible that they will admit this only when they will feel a benefit coming in their lifes based on your work. Only then...maybe.

The masks are very important for our message. It's not about Satanochio - the masked guys that make strange metal music. Satanochio represents the revolted human, we are just a metaphor, our real faces are not important in this story."

Steven Wilson
Porcupine Tree
[DPRP]

"Religion is always one of those things which have fascinated me in a kind of negative way, if you like. It is something which has fascinated me in a kind of gruesome way. I think it's really disturbing. I'm not including all religions, I'm not including all people who have religious beliefs. Certainly organised religion, particularly really fundamental American religious cults I find extremely disturbing and this whole idea of TV evangelism and using, exploiting people's weaknesses, exploiting people's emotional insecurities, basically in order to obtain power, to obtain money, to obtain ego.
[...]
It's not religion that concerns me, it's not people who have spiritual beliefs, but it's the politics of religion and the commercial side of religion. Which, in some ways, is the sickest and most disturbing form of politics we have on this Earth, because it masquerades as something else. It masquerades as something, a gateway for people to happiness and to an afterlife or whatever, when in fact all it is, is just people exploiting other people weaker than themselves for the purposes of power and money."

TODD SMITH
Dog Fashion Disco
[Rough Edge]

"People are literally asking us "What the hell are these guys trying to do?". Sometimes we get a really good response, other people just don't get it.

The element of surprise is critical. It's refreshing to hear somebody who really makes you think and put their minds totally into what they are creating instead of heavy riff after heavy riff.

There's no real deep social message at all. I just put words together that run together. On some songs there is an overlying theme. For instance, "9 To 5 At The Morgue" is about how people waking up to do their day jobs feel like they're just walking through the day like they're half-dead. For the most part the themes should be pretty obvious, but some times there isn't an obvious theme."

GREG PUCIATO
The Dillinger Escape Plan
[MyCityBuzz]

"We’re one of those bands that if every band is doing one thing- we want to go in the complete opposite direction. We are grateful for our fans, but we never want to feel like we owe them anything.

It never seems like we fit in anywhere. If we ever did an OzzFest, I am sure the people raised on just heavy metal would hate us. When we do a festival like Bonnaroo, people are naturally going to have one of three reactions within 5 seconds of seeing us: they look puzzled and they decide to walk away or they will absolutely love us or the third, which is more like a morbid curiosity, and they want to see what will happen next."

KERRY KING
Slayer
[Metal Hammer]

"Metal Hammer: 'Angel Of Death' caused a lot of controversy. Is that something you embraced or was it a pain in the arse?

Kerry King: It gave me enough fuel to write music for the rest of my life. To see something like that have such an impact, and to see people take offence to it, it made me realise how hypocritical everyone is as people. We’re all hypocrites. We’re supposed to have freedom of speech, but you’re gonna get offended by us because we’re playing a song about that? That’s wrong. I think, on the whole, that mankind is full of fucking idiots. In a nutshell, our lyrics just say "think". That’s it."
