I said, “We’re not here to be the twentieth band written on the back of a leather jacket, we’re here to get those people to take off those jackets and put on Suicidal shirts.” People didn’t like that. They were like “Why don’t you support your scene?” I said, “Why should I go to see some band if I don’t like them just because they say they’re punk rock.” To me that wasn’t punk rock. If you look at the ideology of punk rock, that’s not what the Sex Pistols were saying. They were saying it shouldn’t matter how you look or how you dress. It’s about if you’re good or not. It’s honesty and doing what you believe."

* Goldfrapp isi vor lansa cel de-al cincilea album de studio, "Head First", pe data de 22 martie. Label-ul Mute, la care va fi lansat materialul, il descrie astfel:

" "Head First" is Goldfrapp's most powerful trip to date, a speedy rush of synth optimism, euphoria, fantasy and romance. With life affirming lyrics and stellar production it lifts off at full tilt and takes us on a journey to the heart of 2010.

The diversity, ambition and direction of the new album highlights Goldfrapp as true agenda-setters and modern musical icons. ‘Head First' follows the critically acclaimed ‘Seventh Tree', and is the latest in a brilliantly consistent body of work - from the captivating electronic balladry of Mercury nominated debut ‘Felt Mountain' and its distorted-dancefloor follow-up, ‘Black Cherry' to the glitterball glamour of ‘Supernature' which came out in summer 2005 and went on to sell over a million copies worldwide."

In asteptarea albumului, Goldfrapp au realizat si un videoclip la piesa 'Rocket', care va fi lansata sub forma unui single pe data de 8 martie.

* Smashing Pumpkins au postat online o noua piesa de pe monumentalul album "Teargarden By Kaleidyscope". 'A Stitch In Time' este a treia piesa dintre cele 44 pe care la va contine albumul, fiind precedata 'A Song For A Son' (8 decembrie 2009) si 'Widow Wake My Mind' (18 ianuarie 2010).

"The song came in during a stream of consciousness moment while sitting backstage at a Pumpkins concert in those wee, still hours between soundcheck and the show. The lyrics came just as surprisingly fast as the music, and the whole process took about 20 minutes", spune Billy Corgan despre noua piesa.

Cele 44 de piese ale albumului vor fi lansate, in prima faza, pe suport fizic, sub forma unor EP-uri de cate 4 piese, urmand ca in final sa fie lansat un box-set cu toate compozitiile. Primul dintre aceste 11 EP-uri de 4 piese va fi intitulat "Volume 1/Songs For a Sailor" si va aparea pe 20 aprilie, continand piesele 'A Song For A Son', 'Widow Wake My Mind', 'A Stitch In Time' si 'Astral Planes', care urmeaza sa fie lansata.

* The Dillinger Escape Plan au lansat un nou videoclip, 'Farewell, Mona Lisa', piesa care va fi inclusa pe viitorul album de studio al trupei. "Option Paralyisis" va aparea pe 23 martie si va contine 10 piese:

Albumul a fost produs de Steve Evetts si va fi primul material lansat de trupa pentru label-ul Party Smasher Inc./Season Of Mist.

* "That's it. With equal parts regret and relief, the Jane's Addiction experiment is at an end."

Acesta este mesajul postat pe Twitter prin care basistul Eric Avery a confirmat oficial despartirea de Jane's Addiction. Acestia s-au reunit pentru a treia oara la sfarsitul anului 2008, pentru prima data alaturi de Avery, care nu se prezentase la reuniunile din 1997 si 2001.

Inlocuitorul lui Avery este Duff McKagan, fost membru Ten Minute Warning, Guns'n'Roses si Velvet Revolver. Alaturi de acesta, Jane's Addiction au inceput sa compuna piese pentru un nou album, primul dupa "Strays" (2003). "We've got one great song so far called 'Top Dog'", a confirmat Farrell.


* Legendara trupa de NYHC Sick Of It All a dezvaluit tracklist-ul noului album, "Based On A True Story", care va fi lansat pe data de 20 aprilie la Century Media Records:

In ceea ce priveste directia muzicala a noului material, Sick Of It All nu isi propun nici un experiment sau schimbare de stil: "It's typical us. It's a mixture of what we love — old-school sing-along Oi! music mixed with modern hardcore. That's what we do."


* Un nou videoclip Katatonia, intitulat 'The Longest Year', poate fi urmarit mai jos. Clipul a fost regizat de Charlie Granberg, care a mai lucrat cu Bloodbath sau My Dying Bride.

Atat videoclipul cat si piesa vor fi incluse pe EP-ul "The Longest Year", care va fi lansat pe data de 15 martie.

* Toamna anului 2010 va aduce un nou album din partea uneia dintre cele mai longevive formatii ale miscarii punk rock. Cel de-al cinsprezecelea album Bad Religion, pentru care formatia a pregatit deja 16 piese, este la fel de perosnal precum "Recipe For Hate" (1993), spune solistul Greg Graffin.

Anul acesta Bad Religion implinesc 30 de ani de activitate. Aniversarea va fi serbata printr-o serie de 12 concerte sustinute in locatiile House of Blues de pe Coasta de Vest, cu un playlist care va parcurge intreaga discografie a trupei. Exista si posibilitatea ca la unul dintre aceste show-uri sa fie cantat integral clasicul album "Suffer", lansat in 1988.

"I'm mostly uplifted by the fact that a vibrant and evolving punk scene still inspires young people all over the world. If Bad Religion somehow serves as a symbol for the lasting importance of punk, then I am satisfied beyond words by reaching this milestone", spune Graffin.


* Deftones au devzaluit, in sfarsit, tracklist-ul viitorului album de studio, "Diamond Eyes", care va fi lansat pe data de 18 mai:

* Billy Corgan a acordat un interviu revistei Rolling Stone, primul pentru aceasta publicatie dupa 10 ani. Interviul nu este inca disponibil online, putand fi citit doar in noul numar al revistei, dar cateva fragmente au fost dezvaluite:

* Carismatica trupa new-yorkeza de gypsy punk Gogol Bordello se pregateste de lansarea unui nou album de studio, cel de-al cincilea din cariera. Acesta va fi intitulat "Trans-Continental Hustle" si va aparea pe data de 27 aprilie, fiind produs de celebrul Rick Rubin, care a mai colaborat cu artisti precum Danzig, Slayer, Flipper, System Of A Down, Limp Bizkit, Audioslave, Red Hot Chili Peppers sau Metallica.

"Trans-Continental Hustle" va contine 13 piese:

* Intr-un interviu acordat BBC 6, John Cale a declarat ca nu este interesat de o reuniune Velvet Underground, si ca tine legatura cu ceilalti membri ai trupei doar din interes de afaceri.

"It's not something that I can see happening on the basis of the past. Anyone who wants to reform The Velvet Underground for a series of concerts, to make some money, I understand that, but you can't do that."

Velvet Underground au cantat pentru ultima data in 1996, cu ocazia introducerii in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In urmatoarele doua saptamani ne aducem aminte de cateva trupe care au disparut (mai mult sau mai putin) prematur de pe scena.

Highlight Kenosis - 'A Drop Of You'
Cea mai proaspata retragere din activitate este a celor de la Highlight Kenosis, care au sustinut "ultimul concert" pe data de 4 martie. Conform declaratiilor oficiale, trupa va lua o pauza pana in toamna pentru a lucra la un nou album, dar situatia este, cu siguranta, mult mai complicata decat atat. 'A Drop Of You' ne aduce aminte de cea mai buna perioada a trupei.

EvO - 'Freedom Rope'
O alta formatie profesionista, originala si cu un potential enorm, care a disparut tacit de pe scena. 'Freedom Rope' scoate in evidenta deosebitele aptitudini vocale si instrumentale precum si inspiratia din ultima perioada, in care se trecuse la un alternative metal foarte bine simtit si executat.

Melting Carousel - 'S.O.U.'
"Sper ca Melting Carousel sa cante cat mai mult si mai des prin tara asta gri, poate se mai coloreaza putin." spunea Mihnea Blidariu despre Melting Carousel. Formatia s-a invartit ceva prin tara, s-a agitat putin, a dobandit un oarecare renume in comunitatea underground prin live-urile reusite si experimentale, dupa care s-a dat la fund, si-a schimbat denumirea de pe myspace in "Kelting Marousel" si, in cele din urma, s-a destramat.

Coma - 'Stai'
Se implineste in aceasta primavara un an de cand Coma nu au mai dat nici un semn de viata. Trupa este, inca, oficial in viata dar asteptam si un semn care sa ne confirme asta. Pana un alta, Coma sunt on hiatus iar faniilor nu le ramane decat sa asculte vechile creatii, precum "hit"-ul 'Stai'.

Travka - 'Travka'
13 august 2008 a fost ziua in care Travka s-a retras din activitate. Au lasat in urma doua albume deja clasice, insa ar fi mai avut destule de aratat. Poezia urbana 'Indiferent' este o compozitie reprezentativa pentru stilul absolut inconfundabil Travka.

Tep Zepi - 'First'
Despre Tep Zepi s-a vazut ca au facut cam tot posibilul sa se salveze. In momentul in care Bogdan a parasit trupa, Petra Acker l-a inlocuit rapid si cu succes. Frustrarea de a nu strange insa destul public la concerte i-a determinat sa se lase, in ciuda unui ultim concert exceptional sustinut la festivalul Stufstock. 'First' a fost piesa cu care a inceput totul.

Zebre - 'Totuna'
Un alt proiect clasic al alternative-ului bucurestean, destramat in urma unor conflicte intre solista Raluca Leahu si chitaristul Janin Pasniciuc, doi muzicieni plini de personalitate si vitalitate artistica si pe care ii vom regasi in numeroase alte proiecte de-a lungul anilor.

* O noua piesa Deftones, 'Rocket Skates', este disponibila pentru download gratuit la acest link, pentru o perioada limitata de timp.

'Rocket Skates' va fi inclusa pe viitorul album de studio al trupei, 'Diamond Eyes', care va fi lansat pe data de 18 mai 2010. Pe 17 aprilie, piesa va putea fi achizitionata sub forma unui vinil 7'' in editie limitata.

Chino Moreno spune ca noul album, pe care il considera probabil cea mai buna realizare a trupei, ii aduce aminte de "Around The Fur". "It was written ["Around The Fur"] and recorded in four months, which was the fastest, easiest and funnest record we've ever made. This record totally has that feel to it." Totusi, sound-ul 'Rocket Skates' pare sa aduca aminte mai mult de creatiile recente, de pe "Deftones" si "Saturday Night Wrist", nefiind in nici un caz un "back to the roots".

* Danzig au anuntat oficial titlul urmatorului album de studio: "Deth Red Sabaoth". Discul va fi lansat candva in aceasta primavara.

Componenta in care Danzig lucreaza la noul album este:
Glenn Danzig – voce, chitara, clape
Tommy Victor – chitara
Steve Zing – bas
Johnny Kelly – tobe.
Pentru Kelly si Zing, "Deth Red Sabaoth" este primul album Danzig pe care vor aparea, acestia alaturandu-se formatiei in 2005, respectiv 2006. Danzig este singurul membru fondator ramas in trupa.

Deocamdata nu se cunoaste decat titlul unei singure piese de pe album, 'Long Dark Road', despre care Danzig spune ca "It's very creepy and echo-y. It's like an old kind of '50s-ish kind of song. I've been having in my head probably for about six, seven, eight years. I haven't gotten around to recording it, and I recorded it, so it's pretty cool."

"Deth Red Sabaoth" va fi cel de-al noualea album Danzig, precedentul fiind lansat in vara anului 2004 ("Circle Of Snakes").


* Intr-un interviu acordat Noisecreep, basistul trupei KoRn, Reginald 'Fieldy' Arvizu, vorbeste despre cel de-al doilea album solo al sau, "Bassically", care va fi lansat in acest an.

"I'd say it's like a jazz fusion funk type of thing. Real new age, too. Different kinds of music.
(...)
I don't want people to be confused and buy it and not like it. It's not heavy. I don't want people to get it and think, 'Man, I can't believe I bought this crap'. It's not meant to be heavy. If you like heavy and are not open-minded, you will not like this."

Pana in prezent, Fieldy a terminat 11 piese pentru noul album, fiind posibil ca pe parcurs sa mai apara cateva. Pentru inregistrarea pieselor, s-au folosit un bas cu 15 corzi, unul fretless si un contrabas.

"Bassically" este cel de-al doilea album solo al artistului, primul, "Fieldy's Dreams - Rock'n Roll Gangster", fiind lansat in 2002.


* Triptykon, cel mai nou proiect al lui Tom G. Fischer (ex-Celtic Frost, Hellhammer), isi prezinta albumul de debut, "Eparistera Daimones", care va fi lansat pe data de 22 martie, prin intermediul unei serii de scurte videoclipuri, care se concentreaza, in special, pe art-work-ul cu totul deosebit si estetica sinistra. Seria a ajuns deja la episodul patru:

Albumul va avea un artwork cu totul special, celebrul artist suprarealist de origine elvetiana H.R. Giger acordandu-le celor de la Triptykon privilegiul de a folosi pentru coperta albumului lucrarea sa "Vlad Tepes" (1978). Precedentul disc care a avut pe coperta o lucrare a lui Giger a fost Carcass - "Heartwork", aparut in 1993. Giger a mai colaborat cu Fischer si pentru art-work-ul albumului Celtic Frost - "To Mega Therion" (1985).

Pe langa lucrarea lui H.R. Giger, art-work-ul "Eparistera Daimones" va mai contine un portret al membrilor trupei pictat de artistul suprarealist de origine new-yorkeza Vincent Castiglia chiar cu sangele sau.


* "Rise Up", cel de-al optulea album de studio al formatiei californiene de rapcore Cypress Hill va fi lansat pe data de 6 aprilie 2010. Va fi primul album dupa sase ani (precedentul - "Till Death Do Us Part", 2004), aceasta fiind cea mai mare perioada intre doua albume consecutive ale trupei.

Albumul va avea cativa invitati de seama, printre care Tom Morello - chitaristul Rage Against The Machine, Mike Shinoda - solistul Linkin Park si Daron Malakian - fostul chitarist System of A Down. Un prim single de pe album, 'It Ain't Nothin', a fost deja lansat pentru free download pe site-ul trupei. Cel de-al doilea single va fi intitulat 'Rise Up' si il va avea ca invitat pe Tom Morello.


* Papa Roach se afla la ora actuala in studio si lucreaza la cinci piese noi, care vor fi incluse pe primul album live al trupei. Deocamdata nu se cunosc nici un fel de amanunte despre acest material, decat ca va fi lansat cu siguranta in acest an, via DGC/Interscope.

Cel mai recent material discografic Papa Roach a fost albumul "Metamorphosis", aparut in martie 2009. O descriere elocventa a acestuia, si a stilului abordat de Papa Roach in prezent, este oferita de Chris Fallon, pe www.absolutepunk.net: "Big anthems, Jonas Brother album cover, lyrics that weave in & out of ambition-slash-unified hope and back-alley corners? Too many times the band takes one step forward and two steps back, at least showing some minimal signs of life in a dying genre built on repetition. Shaddix has a solid voice for this sound, and Horton seems to be discovering a new use for his distortion pedal, there are just far too many cliches in the ocean Papa Roach is trying to swim across, and the band can't seem to cope with their identity."


* Stone Temple Pilots au organizat martea trecuta un listening party privat in cadrul caruia invitatii au avut privilegiul de a audia in intregime noul album de studio al formatiei. Un reporter The Pulse Of Radio a descris albumul ca "a natural, melodic progression, with Beatles-esque harmonies, a lot of in-your-face, hard-rocking tracks, plenty of guitar solos and some astounding singing from Weiland."

Albumul, auto-intitulat, va fi lansat pe 25 mai 2009 via Atlantic Records, si va avea urmatorul track-list:

* Joel Gausten, autorul cartii "Tales of Horror: The History of The Misfits & The Undead" si tobosarul trupelor Pigface, The Undead si Electric Frankestein, a facut public un demo Misfits inregistrat acum 15 ani, pe cand canta alaturi de acestia. Piesa, intitulata 'Who Killed Marilyn?', poate fi ascultata pe pagina de myspace a acestuia.

'Who Killed Marilyn?' a fost inregistrata pe 25 februarie 1995, in New Jersey. Line-up-ul care interpreteaza piesa este: Jerry Only (bas), Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein (chitara), Eric Weiss (voce) si Joel Gausten (tobe). Track-ul este datat cu cateva luni inainte de venirea lui Michale Graves ca solist.


* Steve Shelley, tobosarul celor de la Sonic Youth, a pus bazele unei noi trupe. Aceasta se numeste The High Confessions si ii include, atauri de Shelley, pe Chris Connelly (Ministry, Revolting Cocks, Pigface), Sanford Parker (Minsk, Nachtmystium, Buried at Sea) si Jeremy Lemos (White/Light).

The High Confessions au semnat deja cu Relapse Records si isi vor lansa albumul de debut, "Turning Lead Into Gold With the High Confessions", in aceasta vara.
